About Catarot
Catarot is a site that runs a free cat-themed web tarot and Cats & Magic, a serialized essay series on the history, folklore, literature, and science of cats, in Korean, English, and Japanese.
What Catarot does
Catarot has two pillars. The first is a set of short reading tools you can use right in the browser: Daily Tarot, Yes/No Tarot, Love & Relationship Tarot, and Problem-Solving Tarot. All 78 cards feature cats as their main characters.
The second is reading. If tarot offers a moment of intuition, Cats & Magic tells the long story that people and cats have built together over thousands of years, one essay at a time.
The Cats & Magic series
43 episodes have been published so far in Korean, English, and Japanese. The series covers history and folklore such as Egypt's Bastet and Japan's maneki-neko, science such as how cats sleep, see, use their whiskers, and why they meow, and literature from Haruki Murakami to the Cheshire Cat. Each episode can be read on its own.

How we write and correct
These are the principles we aim to follow when writing Cats & Magic. Some early episodes fall short of them, so we are fact-checking and correcting earlier episodes one by one.
- We aim to separate fact from legend. Stories passed down over time should be labeled as legends or anecdotes, not presented as established fact.
- We aim to name our sources. Essays that discuss scientific research should list the institution, year, and papers as references, and we are adding them to earlier essays over time.
- We fix errors. When a factual error is reported or found during our reviews, we check it and correct the text. Reports can be sent to the email on our Contact page.
- We aim to update all three languages together. English and Japanese editions are prepared from the Korean original, and corrections should be applied to all three.
- We keep ads separate from content. Google AdSense ads may appear on the site. Essay content is written independently of advertising.
About tarot readings
Tarot results are for reflection and enjoyment, to help you look back on your attitude and choices. They do not determine the future and do not replace professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice.
